A New Chapter, Same Beloved View.

Crafting a
Coastal Classic

Until the 1920s, Dana Point was a largely untouched stretch of rugged beauty, bluffs and coves with dramatic ocean views. Then Sidney H. Woodward, famed developer of Hollywoodland, came with a grand vision: to create the quintessential Mediterranean seaside resort town with a luxurious hotel atop the cliffs as its showpiece.

The creation of Laguna Cliffs on the same bluff, nearly 60 years later, embodied this visionary spirit. Now, a new chapter is on the horizon: with all the makings of a cherished coastal landmark.

Renovation FAQs

Is the hotel under construction right now?

Yes, we've begun a phased enhancement project to thoughtfully improve a few guest spaces. The work is being done in stages to limit any disruption and keep the guest experience as seamless as possible.

How will the property enhancements affect my stay?

Most of the work is happening in designated areas only, and we've designed the timing and location of the updates to reduce guest impact. If there's ever anything you need to feel more comfortable, please let us know.

Will the renovations extend into the existing Lantern Bay Park?

No, the resort footprint is remaining the same and will not expand into the existing Lantern Bay Park.

What areas of the property are being worked on?

The first phase of work includes a new event lawn and resort pool. The second phase includes the ballrooms, lobby and restaurants. The final phase includes the entry drive into the resort.

When will the transformation of the property be complete?

Because we're taking a thoughtful, phased approach, certain parts of the project will be completed at different times. To stay up to date, please complete the contact form on this page. We'll continue to share more as we move forward.

Can I still use the pool, spa and other resort amenities during my stay?

Yes! Unless otherwise noted at check-in or on signage, all core guest areas remain open. If there are any temporary changes in hours or access, we'll make sure to let you know well in advance.
